Ash New England Walnut has a medium-light brown color and will feel homey in any type of rustic space.
Although ash is similar in appearance to white oak or hickory, it contains a slight yellow tint. The sapwood is a light, creamy color, while the heartwood ranges from light tan to deep brown. The grain pattern of ash is bold and straight, with occasional waves. The classic cathedral grain in plain sawn boards is evidence of the growth ring after the board is sawn.
Aside from its appearance, ash offers above-average durability and dimensional stability. Stability is important when picking out a wood option as humidity and temperature changes can often weaken different types of wood. This species is excellent for those concerned with durability and foot traffic. Since ash is the most common wood found in MLB-regulation baseball bats, it can withstand a 99 mile-per-hour fastball!
With a nine percent durability increase over northern red oak, ash wide plank flooring is a reliable investment.
