MIke Glavin – Founder of Wide Plank Floor Supply & City Floor Supply
Mike is one of the original founding members of the City Floor Supply and Wide Plank Floor Supply. A chemist by trade, Mike began his career as product development chemist for Pennwalt Corporation.
Prior to launching City Floor Supply (then known as Philadelphia Floor Store in 1992), Mike worked for Basic Coatings where he learned the inner workings of the hardwood floor industry. It was during that time when Mike realized that the hardwood flooring contractors in the Northeast region were not being adequately served. This niche market had no one-stop shop for all their flooring needs, nor did they have access to local experts on whom they could rely.
With that in mind, Mike established a regional distribution center for flooring products. Mike’s vision became a reality, as City Floor Supply offered contractors a place to buy wood, finishes, machines, and also have their equipment serviced and their questions answered all in place. In March of 2011, the company launched their on-line store which successfully introduced them to a national audience. In 2015 MIke opened Wide Plank Floor Supply to accommodate the growing demand for wide plank, antique and reclaimed hardwood flooring.
Mike provides leadership and technical expertise in all facets of both companies. Customers rely on his vast experience in the wood floor industry and he regularly receives calls requesting technical assistance. When not assisting contractors, Mike investigates and structures vendor programs geared towards increasing revenue and solidifying customer relationships.
Mike graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in 1983 with a BA in Chemistry. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, both of whom are active in sports. When he’s not helping on the sidelines or in the dugout as a coach, Mike enjoys hunting, hiking and the great outdoors.
